About Retiro Running

How can I join Retiro Running?

Welcome to the team! To join easily, check our Welcome Guide by clicking here. If you prefer a more detailed explanation, first, sign up on our website to enjoy the two free weeks. Next, we recommend registering on both Meetup and Netsport. This will allow you to sign up for our events and meet other members. Everyone's participation is crucial for the community to keep growing. The more details we have about who attends our events, the safer the environment for everyone. We also invite you to join our WhatsApp and Strava groups, although you'll need an additional trial period to access these services.

Do you do training?

At Retiro Running, we are a community of runners, so we don't offer formal training sessions, but you can join to run with Retiro Runners who have various levels of experience and goals. From dedicated runners to those who simply enjoy a relaxed run to relieve stress in Madrid. We focus on providing support and camaraderie in the passion for running.

What's the pace? What level is the group?

In Retiro Running, our group is diverse and welcomes runners of all levels. As a reference, during the week, the average pace is usually around 5:30 minutes per kilometer, while on Sundays, it tends to be around 5:50 minutes per kilometer. However, it's important to note that each member runs at their own pace and according to their training goals. Although we may be separated during the run, we gather at the end
to socialize. The diversity of runners in our team makes it likely that you'll find running buddies at your pace and with whom you can chat.

Where is the meeting and starting point?

Our meeting and starting point is at the fountain of the Puerta de la Independencia, which is the main entrance to Retiro Park, near the Puerta de Alcalá.

Where is the finishing point?

On Sundays, the finishing point is the same as the starting point. During the week, we finish in front of the Retiro Library, near the Statue of the goddess Hera.

Do you offer a place to store belongings during events?

For now, we don't have our own space to store belongings. However, on some occasions, we have coordinated with nearby bars or venues that may
allow members to store their belongings. If you need something similar, we recommend that you let us know well in advance. We are exploring options to provide this service in the future.

What is Meet&Chill?

Meet&Chill is the name we use for our social events designed for members to connect and have fun together. These events can include both indoor and outdoor activities, such as karaoke, bowling, picnics, and many other creative options. We usually announce these events one or two weeks before they take place, and they are scheduled for the first few
days of the month. Most of these events require pre-registration and some other processes to ensure the group's safety. We recommend deciding to participate as early as possible before the registration deadline. It's an excellent way to get to know other community members!

I want to be a co/organizer or staff member of Retiro Running, how do I do it?

Being part of the staff comes with benefits such as free entry to all events permanently as long as you remain part of the staff, along with a free t-shirt. To apply, it's important to have been in the group for an extended period, have a thorough understanding of all aspects, have a good command of English, be familiar with the rules, routes, and events, and above all, have a deep affection for the group and a desire for this project to continue growing. Being part of the staff is a significant commitment, so we take it very seriously. Do you identify with these requirements? We will soon enable a form in this section for you to fill out and submit your application.

I want to be part of the Retiro Running community space and share my project. How do I do it?

We would love to learn more about your personal project! To do so, please fill out this form. We wish you the best of luck! Please note that this space is designed for members who have been with us for some time. For security reasons and to ensure the quality of the community, it's necessary that you have been with us for at least a couple of
months or that your participation has been consistent and highly visible. We want to get to know you better before sharing your project
with the entire community. We welcome all kinds of projects, whether related to running, coaching, healthy food, art, music, podcasts, reviews, tourism, mindfulness, and much more! What are you waiting for?

What are "meteocrazy" events?

"Meteocrazy" events are those in which Retiro Running challenges you with adverse weather conditions while you run. These conditions may include rain, storms, strong winds, high or low temperatures, snow, or any other weather phenomenon. Of course, we have limits, and if there is a red alert or a clear ban, the event will be cancelled. However, if conditions are within reason, these events usually take place. Remember that none of these events are mandatory; Attending them is the responsibility of each member, and you must consider the risks involved. We recommend that you read the terms and conditions to be aware of any incidents that may arise in the future.

Purchases and Services

How do the 2 free weeks work?

The 2 free weeks are available to new members who have not previously participated in an HR event. These two weeks begin from the moment the runner registers on the website. To make the most of this period, we recommend that you register on the same day you plan to attend an event. Once this trial period ends, you will need to select one of our plans to continue participating in our events. We hope you enjoy your 2 free weeks and decide to officially join our community!

I have paid for an individual event, now what do I do?

Once you have made payment for an individual event, it is essential that you show proof of payment at the start of the event. Also, be sure to RSVP on the Meetup or Netsport platform for the event in question. This confirmation allows us to keep track of participants and ensure that you have a great experience at our event. We hope to see you there!

Can I make payments in other ways than through the web?

Yes, although there are certain exceptions. Cash payments will be accepted as long as they are made before the event. In very exceptional and urgent cases, other methods such as Bizum, Revolut or Paypal may be considered. However, the main form of payment is through the web. We appreciate your understanding.

If I have chosen the premium event with recurring payment, how does that plan work?

If you have chosen the recurring option, your payment will be automatically collected each month. This is done so that you don't have to worry about monthly payments. However, you can cancel this option at any time and choose to make the payment manually if you prefer. We want to offer you flexibility in your experience with us.

I have bought clothes at the RR store, what are the next steps?

We have received your order and will proceed to order your merchandise, which could take about a week and a half. If delivery is delayed, we will inform you about this. If you need urgent delivery, please let us know by email. We usually deliver the products to an RR event you attend, or you can pick them up at Paseo de la Chopera 47. You can choose the pickup method on the payment gateway. Soon we will offer the option of home delivery. We appreciate your patience.

What happens if I have purchased the annual/monthly/individual service and at any time RetiroRunning is suspended or closed unexpectedly?

We have no intention or desire for RetiroRunning to stop. We will do everything we can to prevent this, as no one would want that to happen. However, it is important to be clear about this to avoid problems. If we reach that point, refunds will be issued for services paid for within 15 days of the closure or pause. For annual services, we will honor t-shirt delivery even if we are on hiatus or closed. It is essential that you read the terms and conditions before joining the group for more details. By joining the group, making a payment, attending and participating in any services, you agree to the terms and conditions. If you do not agree and payment has already been made before that 15-day period, these refund policies will apply. Please note that vacations are not considered a "break." We appreciate your understanding, support and trust in the community.

Do I need to pay Strava premium to use it?

You don't need to pay for the premium version of Strava to use it. The free version has many useful features to record your activities and connect with our community. The premium version offers additional features, but is not essential to enjoy the Retiro Running experience on Strava.

When I join the Strava club, will members see my activities?

Yes, but you can adjust the visibility in the privacy settings in the app or on the web version of Strava. This way, you can keep your activities private and they will not be visible on the community club page.

Why am I no longer a member of the Strava club?

Our community on Strava is based on the active participation of members. If you have not been interacting or doing activities, you may have been removed from the club to keep the community active and safe. To rejoin, we invite you to participate and connect with other members through your activities and comments.

Whatsapp community

How can I join the WhatsApp community?

To join our WhatsApp community, you must first complete a period with us, including the two-week trial, have chosen a plan and have interacted with several team members. When you feel comfortable and know several colleagues, you can send us a request. For security reasons, we do not accept unknown numbers in the group. This ensures a safe environment for all members.

Are there rules in the community?

Yes, we have certain rules in the general community group to maintain a positive and safe environment. Some of the key rules are: 1) Do not use any type of violence towards other members. 2) Do not send spam content, projects or forms that are not related to running. If in doubt, it is important to consult staff before publishing. 3) Any social, sports or information plan related to Madrid, as long as it is verified, is valid. 4) It is important to respect the hours and not abuse messages to prevent the group from becoming silent and members losing visibility.

I have applied to join some of the community subgroups, but have not been accepted yet. Because?

Some requests may take time to be accepted due to security reasons. In some groups, you need to know at least some of the members who are already in it or have been in the community for a while. However, if you quickly connect with many members in a short time or if you have connections with members already in these groups, we may be able to make some exceptions. We do not accept new members into these subgroups immediately.

Why am I no longer part of the WhatsApp community?

We conduct membership reviews every 3 months to keep the community active and engaged. If you have been removed, it is likely that you have not participated or appeared in the community for an extended period of time. We want club members to be active and participate in interactions and events. If you were eliminated but want to rejoin, you can do so at any time as long as you demonstrate activity or at least participation in the events.
